Shay Ben-Moshe (MPIM Bonn):
Transfers in transchromatic homotopy theory
Abstract
The purpose of this talk is to explain how the character map from representation theory, and its compatibility with induction, sheds light on chromatic homotopy theory. After a quick recap of spectra and the chromatic picture, I will recast the character map in this language and introduce the transchromatic character map. Then, I will explain the homotopical origins of induction maps, as the transfers arising from higher semiadditivity. Finally, I will explain the compatibility of transfers with the transchromatic character map, generalizing the classical formulas for the character of an induced representation and for the dimension of the invariant subspace. To conclude, I will outline some further directions for research.
